ASUS X55A-JH91 Review

ASUS X55A JH91 Review

Last time I checked the ASUS X55A-JH91 was available online for around $400 (or maybe even cheaper since there are usually multiple sellers on Amazon). I think it was launched in mid-October last year and it best suited for students and casual users on a budget. It’s a great entry-level laptop that offers basic-to-moderate computing power.

What I can tell from the published specs and other ASUS X55A-JH91 reviews is that this laptop was definitely built with the student or casual user in mind. Why would you ask.. it’s a great little budget laptop but it doesn’t have a very powerful processor, dedicated video card or a Bluetooth connection. These we’re the cons if you were to ask me, but let’s also look at the pros: 500GB of disk is plenty of space for your photos, movies, music files or other documents, the 2 USB ports (1 x USB 2.0 and 1 x USB 3.0) will come in very handy (especially the 3.0 one), HDMI port is also available together with the LAN and VGA port. This ASUS X55A-JH91 laptop features an Intel Pentium B980 processor running at 2.4GHz which is more than enough for what you’ll be able to use it for (again, I think this laptop is mainly for students, casual users, and even business people to some extent but gamers and power users should really try somethink else).

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
As I also said early in this review, for the students on a budget that require basic computing power, the ASUS X55A-JH91 could something to consider. While it doesn't have that many special features as the expensive laptops do, it will easily run most of the student apps I'm aware of (Word, Excel, etc) and will also provide a great solution for your productivity and entertainment needs like watching movies, listening to music and even play some basic good ol' games (older titles). Some of the cool features this laptops comes with are the IceCool technology, USB 3.0 port, SonicMaster Lite Audio with Altec Lansing Speakers and the integrated webcam. I'd give ASUS X55A-JH91 a try.

  • Casual User
From all the casual users I know, none of them really requires high-end performance to fulfill his / her daily tasks. Activities such as reading emails, browsing the web, listening to music, watching movies & pictures don't require a whole bunch of hardware strength so you don't have to break the bank for a top-laptop. This is why I think the ASUS X55A-JH91 is best suited for casual users. There aren't too many good laptops (with condition new) out there you could find under $400 to be way better than this one. With a 15.6-inch display size, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB disk space hard drive you won't have any problem with this laptop in your daily use.

  • Business User
The way I see it, a business user should value mobility above all else. That is why I believe that the perfect laptop for a business user should be the Ultrabook, however, knowing how much one of those costs, I guess other alternatives can be found. ASUS X55A-JH91 weights around 5.4 lbs, it's not too heavy but it isn't very lightweight. Other than it's weight, you should know that it doesn't have a Bluetooth connection. I think that unless you are a serious power user, the ASUS X55A JH91 shouldn't have a problem running most of the business apps out there.

  • Power User
ASUS X55A-JH91 is definitely not the best option for power users. With only 4GB of RAM (and if I'm not wrong, the RAM memory is not up-gradable for this laptop) you might have problems if you're planning to stress it out with serious multi-tasking activities.

  • Gaming
ASUS X55A-JH91 was not built for gaming. It doesn't have a dedicated video card and the integrated one it comes with won't help you too much if you intent to play the latest game titles. Sure it will probably run most of the old games that can run on the software mode, or required very little 3D capabilities. For home use I have a similar laptop (probably weaker) and I've tested some old games like Unreal Tournament, Battlefield 2, Counter-Strice and they all work flawlessly.

PROs Vs. CONs

ASUS X55A-JH91 is fairly a good budget laptop. For such a low price you will probably have a hard time trying to find something better. Decent processing power (according to NotebookCheck.net website, the performance of this processor should be similar to a Intel Core i3-2310M with 2.1 GHz which is pretty awesome I'd say), enough RAM memory, plenty of space, good set of features and it's a new computer. I don'e like looking at the used ones :)

The ASUS X55A-JH91 is perfect for casual users and students. Keep in mind the fact that, at the end of the day, this is a really inexpensive laptop offering a good value for the money. Probably the more demanding users won't be that happy with this laptop. Power users and gamers might find this laptop as an overly too simplistic laptop.

User Reviews: what others think?

This is a relatively new laptop so I couldn't find other reviews for it. At the current time there are no good and no bad reviews for ASUS X55A-JH91 to be found whatsoever.

Summary

At the end of the day, best feature of the ASUS X55A-JH91 is the really low price. A 15.6-inch new laptop with these specs will offer you good value for the money. If you're looking for an inexpensive laptop you can't really go wrong with this model. It will server well the students, casual users, kids but it's probably not the best option for power-hungry users like gamers or power users.
