Lenovo B590 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) 59410449 Review
The Exterior
The Lenovo B590 comes in typical Lenovo, matte black cover, with the Lenovo logo on the top left corner. The rest of the case has the same kind of black matte finish. The overall design is very sober, functional and simple helping it look professional. This finish ensures very little scratching, making it ideal for people working in often unpredictable locations.
On the inside we find the 15.6-Inch display, with the webcam right over it in the middle of the screen bezel. On the bottom of the screen we have the Lenovo logo in the middle and the model number on the left side.
The body features Lenovo’s raised tile style keyboard in black with a numerical pad and, in case of this model,we don’t find the Lenovo specific reversed Control (Ctrl) and Function (Fn) keys. This will make it easy to get used to it if you owned a device from another manufacturer previously. If on the other hand you are a Lenovo aficionado, this might cause you some problems at first until you get used to it. We have had the pleasure of working with this keyboard in the past and all we can say is that it’s very good. It does take some time to get used to it’s feel but after that everything is good.
Above the keyboard we find the 2 stereo speakers and the power button on the left side. The touchpad is slightly offset to the left for better typing comfort.
The Connectivity
The Lenovo B590 features all the most common connectivity options. It features 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports, two on each side. Because of it’s normal size it also has an optical drive and a VGA-Port. It also has HDMI and Ethernet connectivity. It features the now standard Headphone/Mic Combo port.
The 4-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC) is positioned on the front edge of the device and with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connectivity, 10/100 LAN, and Bluetooth 4.0, you’ll be able to connect wherever you go.
The Performance
Based on it’s specifications you would be hard pressed to say the Lenovo B590 59410449 is an entry level device. It features a very good 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 3230M Processor running at 2.6 GHz and 6 GB of DDR3 RAM. This processor also comes with the tried and tested Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card. It has proven it’s capabilities very well in the past, and it is a very good integrated video card. It is capable of running most of today’s games on medium to low settings, thus ensuring that some gaming is possible even on this entry level model. Based on these specifications this device is more than capable of running resource intensive Applications without much problem.
The storage capacities are average for this price range with 500 GB of HDD space. The battery life is quoted by Lenovo at just over 5 hours and based on my previous experience with Intel Core i5s I tend to believe this number.
